Things to Do in Monroe Township to Get You in the Holiday Spirit
November 6, 2020While this year has brought its challenges, there are certainly matters to celebrate – and the holiday season is the perfect time to focus on the joy, health and happiness in our lives. Even though social distancing may be the norm, there are ways for you to take part in the holiday spirit and celebrate safely. At Monroe Village, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the ways you are able to enjoy the holidays in Monroe Township.
Activities to Help You Enjoy the Holidays
Enjoy a Holiday Movie Marathon. For many people, it’s been tradition since we were children to curl up in cozy blankets with a hot beverage and enjoy holiday movies and specials. Whether your favorite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street or even How the Grinch Stole Christmas, be sure to set some time aside this holiday season to relax and enjoy a show.
Explore New York City Lights. The Big Apple is only an hour away from Monroe Township, and New York City is known to have stunning light displays during the holiday season. Take a day trip to see the city decorated in lights, from Rockefeller Center to the Winter Village at Bryant Park. (While a day trip is an exciting escape, please remember to socially distance yourself from large crowds and wear masks when in public.)
Decorate Your Home. Bringing the holiday spirit into your home helps to completely immerse yourself into seasonal joy and excitement. Bring out the decorations you’ve had in your family for years or find a few new decorations in the store to adorn your home for the holidays.
Bundle Up for a Winter Walk. Temperatures may be dropping, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a brisk walk outdoors. There’s something special about seeing trees covered in newly fallen snow and taking a breath of crisp, winter air at area parks, including Thompson Park, Jamesburg Park, Farrington Lake, Ireland Brook Conservation Area, Davidson’s Mill Pond Park and more.
Organize a Community Gift Exchange. This year has been stage in the sense that we aren’t able to see friends and family as often as we’d like – but that doesn’t mean you can’t connect to your community. Organize a holiday gift exchange by drawing names of a participant that you will give a gift to. A community gift exchange is a way to still connect with others and take part in holiday traditions while keeping safety as a first priority.
Take a Drive to View Holiday Lights. You’ve probably noticed neighbors in your community working hard decorating homes for the holidays. Turn your favorite seasonal radio station on, grab a coffee or hot chocolate and take a drive around the Monroe Township community to admire the displays.
