Monroe Village Offers Safety of Continuing Care to Residents During Pandemic

Although a run on toilet paper might have seemed like the biggest challenge when sheltering in place first went into effect this spring, for many New Jersey residents the true concern was for their physical safety and mitigating the risk of contracting COVID-19.

For seniors in particular, for whom infections can pose life-threatening consequences, one of the many advantages of living in a continuing care retirement community is the closed campus arrangement, where residents’ lives can continue as usual while staff ensure they remain safe and informed.

At Monroe Village, part of the Springpoint Senior Living family of Life Plan communities in Middlesex County’s Monroe Township, residents have always enjoyed the many services and amenities of a maintenance-free and “active adult” lifestyle. One of the best retirement values in senior living in central New Jersey, Monroe Village offers residents security for future care needs through a full continuum of care, all on one campus. Also nearby is Village Point Rehabilitation and Healthcare, a senior rehabilitation center designed to make both life and recovery comfortable and beneficial, with a dedicated team of professional caregivers providing sub-acute care and rehabilitation, long-term care and memory care.

Finding a Home During Difficult Times

The LivWell program offers daily possibilities to improve wellness in all dimensions, from physical, social, emotional and more to ensure residents keep on living their best lives. The campus is convenient to a wide variety of arts and cultural opportunities, with world-class entertainment, beautiful parks, great shopping and so much more just a short drive away.

As stay at home measures were put in place earlier this year, the community at Monroe Village came together to look out and care for each other. Overnight, employees transformed into heroes, finding innovative ways to furnish residents with needed goods and services, while keeping everyone safe and healthy. The community TV channel provided residents with updates from the leadership team and residents and staff telephoned to check in on neighbors and spread positivity to each other in ways big and small.

As part of Springpoint, all responses to the challenges posed by COVID-19 at Monroe Village have been guided by a dedicated health care team, with combined hundreds of years of clinical expertise, in compliance with federal, state and local health officials.
Some measures imposed include:

  • All visitors must fill out an assessment and contact tracing forms and undergo a temperature check.
  • Employees and health care residents are tested regularly and masks are required throughout the facilities at all times.
  • Staff members use advanced cleaning methods throughout the community to mitigate risk of contamination.
  • All employees are required to quarantine and test negative before returning to work following illness.
  • Monroe Village staff are fully stocked with a PPE supply to address future needs.

You’ll Never Be Bored at Monroe Village

Residents can still go about their day and feel safe and protected. While dining at Fireside Restaurant or the more casual Village Bistro is currently on hold, hot and delicious, chef-prepared meals are delivered to each resident’s front door. And to help residents purchase the essentials without having to go to the local grocery store, staff opened the Village Mini-Market in the Bistro, which is similar to a convenience store, selling a variety of grocery items and personal products.

And while trips to Atlantic City, local theaters and museums are on hold, there’s still fun to be had with fellow residents. Residents practicing social distancing and mask wearing can putter in the community garden or stroll around the pond.

Monroe Village’s beautifully crafted and upgraded apartments were designed to meet the needs of today’s active individuals, offering spacious, independent living apartments, including one-bedroom, one-bedroom-with-den and two-bedroom residences.

Prior to the pandemic, residents enjoyed living their best lives with the peace of mind that should their needs change, they have the security of on-site continuum of care. But these challenging times call for heightened security for seniors and the staff at Monroe Village provide a safe and healthy environment with care and compassion.
